Emulation Engineer

Nuvacore is building a ground-up high performance, low-power CPU for next-generation compute workloads. We are seeking Emulation Engineers at multiple levels — from Senior Engineer to Principal level — to help bring the Nuvacore CPU up on emulation and FPGA prototypes, well before silicon exists. As part of the design verification (DV) team, you will design and deploy the testbenches and models that run on the emulation platforms, keeping the design fast and stable and giving the design, verification, and software teams an environment they can trust to find bugs early and start software development ahead of first silicon.

THE ROLE

  • Platform Bring-Up: Design and deploy the testbenches and models that bring Nuvacore's CPU and interconnect up on the emulation and FPGA-prototyping platforms (e.g. Veloce, Palladium, ZeBu, and high-end FPGA prototypes), and get tests running.
  • Emulation Readiness: Build and support the emulation side of our testbenches and models — C/C++ DPI transactors, synthesizable and accelerated testbenches, assertions, coverage, power estimation, and behavioral/memory models — made synthesizable, partitioned, and clocked to run efficiently.
  • Performance & Throughput: Tune emulation performance against Nuvacore's target fraction of theoretical performance, and drive the emulation-friendly methodologies that use platform resources efficiently, including simulation acceleration of DV testbenches.
  • Software Enablement: Give software and DV teams a fast, stable pre-silicon environment to develop and debug firmware and drivers ahead of first silicon.
  • Cross-Stack Debug & Availability: Drive failure analysis across hardware and low-level software (waveform analysis, JTAG, kernel-level debug), and implement corrective actions for high availability of the emulation platforms, partnering with emulation vendors on tool issues.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Partner closely with the design, DV, performance, power, and software teams.


REQUIREMENTS — MUST HAVE

  • Degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 15+ years (Principal) or 4+ years (Senior Engineer) of relevant industry experience in hardware emulation, FPGA prototyping, or pre-silicon platforms.
  • Hands-on experience developing and running designs and testbenches on hardware emulation and/or FPGA-prototyping platforms (Veloce, Palladium, ZeBu, or high-end FPGA prototypes), including bringing a CPU or complex design up on emulation.
  • Strong RTL foundation: Verilog/SystemVerilog and design-for-emulation — synthesizable code, partitioning, and clocking/constraint management.
  • Proficiency in C/C++ and at least one scripting language (Python; TCL/Makefile a plus) for transactors, flows, and automation.
  • Hands-on hardware and low-level software debug: waveform analysis, JTAG, and kernel-level debuggers.

REQUIREMENTS — nice to HAVE

  • Emulation performance and throughput tuning — compilation, capacity planning, and runtime optimization.
  • Building and optimizing emulation models for simulation acceleration.
  • Experience integrating a CPU and interconnect on emulation.
  • Experience enabling pre-silicon software/firmware bring-up (boot, drivers).
  • Experience with Linux, UEFI, and the software stack.
  • Experience across more than one emulation vendor or platform.
